Stain

A makeup product designed to impart a long-lasting wash of color to the area it is applied—either the lips or cheeks.
Stains are essentially a pigment suspended in a thin, sheer base, so they leave behind only color, allowing your natural skin and lip texture to show through. Stains go on sheer but can be built up for more intensity.
Common Formulas
Lip stain comes in jars, pens, or tubes.
Cheek stain typically comes in a tube, pot, stick, or compact.
Pro Tip
Stains are a great way to impart natural-looking color to your lips and cheeks, but because the base is thinner (and thusly not as smoothing as normal lipstick or blush), they can sometimes go on blotchy. Make sure your lips are nice and moisturized without any dry skin, and that your cheeks are as well. Work quickly and precisely with stains, as they won't blend once they set in place.
