I'm sure you've noticed all the over-the-top makeup tutorials everywhere on the internet. There's so much out there! But how can anyone expect to learn what they want to know about makeup from inexperienced 'beauty gurus' using 100 makeup products to create a 'natural' look? Enough is enough.
I created The Pretty Fix so that you can boost your makeup confidence by learning real techniques from a true pro—without all the typical smoke and mirrors you find online. I've packed this site with amazing advice and tutorials that are easy to follow, chock full of expert tips, and most importantly, teach you exactly what you want to know! Want to hide a pesky zit completely? Check. Want to stop mascara from smudging? Check. Want a great look for everyday that takes no time at all? Check. The Pretty Fix has the solutions you need to solve your everyday beauty dilemmas and truly learn makeup from the ground up.
Also, if you've noticed the trans flags on my site, that's to indicate this is a safe place for EVERYONE who wants to learn makeup. I create transgender-specific makeup classes, tutorials, makeup advice, and more to try and fill in the gaps so that nobody who wants to enjoy makeup feels left behind.
Thanks for being here!
A little more about me
I was born and raised in the grand city of Greensboro, North Carolina. By the time I reached 6th grade, I put on my very first eyeshadow—an icy white Maybelline eyeshadow to be exact—and as they say, "the rest is history"! I was obsessed with all things makeup, and would tear through Allure magazine and practice relentlessly on my friends. I began my career in beauty working at a Merle Norman makeup store when I was just 16, which is where I developed my knack for helping real women look their best. Five years later, with a dollar and a dream, I packed up my brushes and headed to Hollywood. I worked super hard to build my career, and spent the first 5 years assisting some of the top makeup artists in the world. I'm now lucky enough to work with celebs like Selena Gomez, Tamera Mowry, Madison Beer, and Haim. I've done campaigns for brands ranging from Adidas to CVS, and worked for fashion magazines like Paper, Numero Tokyo, L'Officiel USA, and Vogue Mexico. I am also the resident makeup instructor at the LA LGBT+ Center's 'Trans Lounge' where I teach makeup classes for beginners. If you want, you can see what I'm up to now on instagram @makeupbymelissam. You can also check out my work at www.melissamurdick.com.
