As a professional makeup artist for over 17 years, I've encountered endless makeup questions day after day--even from people who have been doing their makeup their whole lives! Almost everyone feels confused to some degree when it comes to their makeup routine--and it made me realize--that's because nobody is truly taught makeup! For trans women, I know this can be an even more common challenge for you. Even I was stuck as a teenager piecing together bits of info and making a LOT of trial-and-error mistakes. If you've been in the same boat, probably scrolling endlessly through YouTube video after YouTube video and having more questions than answers, you have finally come to the right place.
I created The Pretty Fix so that you can finally boost your makeup confidence by learning everything you need to know from an actual pro (and skip all of the typical smoke and mirrors you find from beauty gurus online). I’m here to give you the most in-depth, game-changing makeup know-how you will find anywhere on the internet. Period. I've packed this site with everything I can think of: online makeup classes, tutorials, makeup advice, and even private makeup mentoring so that you can finally master your makeup routine and feel your best. Bottom line: I’m here to help!
If you’ve noticed the trans flags around the site, that's to indicate that even though my site is for absolutely everyone who wants to learn makeup, it centers around addressing the particular needs of trans women, and creating a safe community for them to learn in! Along with a wide array of other content, I create trans-specific classes, tutorials, and am even developing a trans makeup course. Nobody who wants to enjoy makeup should ever feel left behind, and unfortunately this has historically been the case for many trans women…until now!
Regardless of who you are or how you identify, thank you so much for being here. I can’t wait to help you end your makeup struggles once and for all. I know I've got the answers you've been looking for.
A little more about me
I was born and raised in the grand city of Greensboro, North Carolina. By the time I reached 6th grade, I put on my very first eyeshadow—an icy white Maybelline eyeshadow to be exact—and as they say, "the rest is history"! I was obsessed with all things makeup, and would tear through Allure magazine and practice relentlessly on my friends. I began my career in beauty working at a Merle Norman makeup store when I was just 16, which is where I developed my knack for helping others look their best. Five years later, with a dollar and a dream, I packed up my brushes and headed to Hollywood. I worked super hard to build my career, and spent the first 5 years assisting some of the top makeup artists in the world. I'm now lucky enough to work with celebs like Selena Gomez, Tamera Mowry, Madison Beer, and Haim. I've done campaigns for brands ranging from Adidas to CVS, and worked for fashion magazines like Paper, Numero Tokyo, L'Officiel USA, and Vogue Mexico. I am also the resident makeup instructor at the LA LGBT+ Center's 'Trans Lounge' where I teach makeup classes for beginners. If you want, you can see what I'm up to now on instagram @makeupbymelissam. You can also check out my work at www.melissamurdick.com.
